A career high as Ince finds the safety net
TOM INCE believes his last-gasp winner for Huddersfield is the finest moment of his career so far.
David Wagner’s men were looking for a win against Watford that would almost certainly see them defy the odds and beat the drop.
Yet this dreadful game had nothing going for it until Ince, above, latched on to Mathias Jorgensen’s pass to stab home from six yards out in injury-time.
Substitute Ince wheeled away in delight and was mobbed by his team-mates as Huddersfield’s Premier League fairy tale looks set to continue.
It was only Ince’s third goal this season and he said: “Today was the biggest positive I’ve had in my career. I’ve been disappointed with myself this season and I am my own worst critic. I wanted to produce and do a lot more.
“But it has been a learning curve for me with a new manager, team-mates and different way of playing.
“The Premier League requires you to work 10 times as hard and things are not going to come as easy to you as in the Championship.
“All I can do is take experiences throughout the whole season, and the positives and negatives. All we can do is keep teams below us – give yourself a breather and a gap.”
Ince’s winner was their only shot on goal but Watford were as bad – and Huddersfield did not care about the standard of the match.
Ince added: “The boys deserved this moment and we have to enjoy it. But it is not over yet. We still have four games to go and we are going to give 110 per cent in each one.”
Watford’s fans were short-changed by their side’s showing and the long-awaited return of Craig Cathcart was the only positive.
He said: “I was glad to be back out there but I wish it was better circumstances. I thought we did enough to come away with a point. It’s disappointing but we have to pick ourselves up.”
