Jose to shake it up for cup

-

FAMILIAR SIGHT: Motson’s sheepskin is as famous as his commentating, which has taken him to Old Trafford, right, and Wimbledon, where he covered Bjorn Borg’s triumphs in a career that was feted at Brighton in September, below week after he had been the two-goal hero in the Manchester derby.

Asked if he was disappointed with the £89million midfielder’s performance, Mourinho said: “It was not just him. And he had a yellow card so he was in a more difficult position.

“When you are playing with only two midfield players you cannot play with one at risk of not being able to make a foul. You can do it if your team is not losing the ball but our team was losing the ball.

“Paul was out because of the yellow card. In terms of the way he played he was not worse than some of the others who were on the pitch.”

Mourinho is unhappy at his team’s lack of consistency. During an up and down season United have lost to Huddersfield, West Brom and Newcastle, leaving them 16 points adrift of champions City.

“Consistency has nothing to do with age,” he said. “It has to do with personality, with the way you live for football.”

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones – all on the bench on Sunday – could start at Bournemouth in Mourinho’s shake-up.
