Wedding day plan down the pan
Lyle. “Many guests could not hear us take our vows and there was no sound on the video that was being filmed.
“One of our friends who was in the band playing later helped us out by singing but delays then made us late for the photographer.”
After the couple voiced their misgivings, Claire Ashwell, the wedding planner for the venue’s company, Creeksea Place Events Ltd, commented somewhat mysteriously: “I can only apologise for the toilet paper issue – [and] say ‘delicately’ that ‘unusual’ events transpired that unfortunately ensured that multiple reams of paper were used in a very small space of time.”
And director Jon-Paul Bertorelli Lindsey said: “We apologise monumentally that you weren’t completely happy with your event and again assure you that we have taken on board everything you have so diplomatically outlined and will be addressing it.”
But a meeting between the parties failed to deliver the partial refund the Galleys were seeking, merely a “goodwill gesture”, not as compensation, for them to return to Creeksea Place for a free high tea. “There’s been a lot of gushing but we have been fobbed off,” Lyle declared when he asked Crusader about their rights.
The problem was in the original contract, which seemed short on material detail. Customers were given a choice however about many of the services, on whether to take those supplied by Creeksea, or to do it themselves.
As they had agreed to do this with the music, whatever the reason for the failure, it was their responsibility.
Little was specified regarding the drinks either. They did have a point about the sanitary arrangements though so we asked Mr Bertorelli Lindsey to reconsider the couple’s complaint. But there was no quarter given by the Creeksea boss, whose response was quite dismissive and who also maintained that financial compensation in this particular case “was never a feasible outcome”.
As the Galleys now consider their position they thanked Crusader for the support saying: “We hope others planning their dream day can learn from our experience.”
