- By Helene Perkins

THROUGH rain and shine, blistering heat and numbing cold, they waited...some as long as 15 days.

And yesterday it paid off for the devoted royal fans camped outside St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, hoping to catch a glimpse of the new baby Prince.

Many, wrapped in the Union Flag, were there long before the world’s media arrived yesterday morning when the Duchess of Cambridge went into labour – on St George’s Day.

John Loughrey, 63, who is part of a group who have been camped outside the hospital, said he was delighted.

“We are so pleased,” he added. “We have been here for 15 days. I’m so pleased it’s St George’s Day.” Mr Loughrey, from

Streatham, south London, said he plans to celebrate the birth with flags and fish and chips.

“It didn’t matter whether it was a boy or a girl as long as it’s a healthy baby and a healthy mother,” he added.

“It’s very good for our country and of course Her Majesty the Queen.”

Terry Hutt, who is another member of the group, was also thrilled.

Mr Hutt, who will be celebrating his 83rd birthday at the end of the month, had been hoping to share his birthday, and said: “It’s fantastic to have another newborn baby.”

“If they were born on my birthday, I would have got a birthday cake.”

Before the baby news broke, Maria Scott, 46, from Newcastle, added: “I think it’s going to

DAILY Express astrologer Russell Grant says the new royal baby will be charming, stubborn and have a strong sense of family values.

He said last night: “Born on April 23, 2018 at 11:01, the new royal baby is a Taurus with Cancer rising – just like Princess Charlotte.

“The Cancer sign is strong in the Royal Family. Prince William and Prince George are Cancerians, as was Princess Diana, and Kate has the moon in Cancer. With Cancer

be a boy and I think it’s going to be quick.”

The group set up a makeshift camp, which was covered in royal memorabilia and a Union Flag tent.

When the moment came, town crier Tony Appleton, 81, unofficially announced the birth on the steps of the Lindo Wing, marking the moment by saying “God save the Queen”.

Crowds also gathered at the gates of Buckingham Palace yesterday to glimpse the presentation of a bulletin, placed on a golden easel, to announce the arrival of the fifth in line to the throne.

The ritual has been taking place since 1837 when the palace become the official residence for the monarch.

It was at 2.30pm that senior footman Olivia Smith and footman Heather McDonald headed across the gravel in front of the palace to a roar from the waiting crowd.

The bulletin had details of the birth, including the 11.01am delivery time, along with the signatures of the senior medical team who cared for the Duchess.

It said: “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 11.01 today. Her Royal Highness and her son are both doing well.”

Luigi Ritacca, who was among the crowd and celebrating his 31st birthday, said he felt happy to share the day with baby royal.

“I’ll never forget the that’s for sure,” he said.

“Of course, it’s stolen my thunder a little, but as long as they don’t name him Luigi, I’ll be fine,” he added. rising, the new royal will have a strong sense of family values. Cancer rising will also soften the more rigid qualities of Taurus. “Babies born on this day for English patriots will be as charming as they are stubborn, with strong likes and dislikes. “Taurus children are well-mannered and creative. With five planets in Earth signs, the baby will take a conventional approach to life, with a strong longing for stability and simplicity.”
