Potters need to wake up fast

-

CHESTERFIELD boss Jack Lester has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Former Spireites striker Lester, right, took over in September but leaves the Proact Stadium with the bottom club on the verge of relegation from League Two.

Chesterfield, nine points from safety, will go into the National League tonight if Morecambe earn a point against Cambridge. RYAN Shawcross says Stoke are sleepwalking towards relegation.

The Potters need to win all of their last three games, against Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Swansea, to have any hope of staying up.

Skipper Shawcross said: “We have been sleepwalking into this.

“We’ve been disappointing all season, so there’s a lot of factors that go into the situation we’re in. Something needs to change and change quickly.

“We’ve got to win all three. It’s difficult but it’s not mathematically impossible yet, so we carry on fighting. It’s going to be very hard but you never know what happens.

“You never give up. If there are players who give up, they won’t be playing. Football’s a strange sport and it throws up these surprises, so hopefully we cause one.

“Liverpool have had a few upsets at Anfield so hopefully we can capitalise on them. They have got two massive games against Roma and we’re sandwiched in between, so hopefully their focus is away from our game.”
