Rams’ revival rocks Warnock

- Steve Madeley

A BRACE for Cameron Jerome handed Derby’s play-off challenge a shot in the arm and delivered a big blow to Cardiff’s promotion hopes.

Matej Vydra also scored in a win that took the Rams back into the top six but left Neil Warnock’s men just a point clear of thirdplaced Fulham.

It was a tough defeat for Cardiff to take after they led at half-time thanks to Callum Paterson’s 10th goal of

the season. They were pegged back by Jerome with 21 minutes to go before leading scorer Vydra, who had been dropped by Rams boss Gary Rowett, made his point and Jerome added a late third. Derby made the early running, but it was Cardiff who led on 28 minutes, shortly after they were denied a penalty after claims for handball.

The goal came from the left wing, where Joe Bennett crossed for Paterson to volley past Scott Carson low down.

Derby were brighter after the interval and two powerful runs from the back by Richard Keogh put the Bluebirds under pressure.

Keogh then had a hand in the equaliser as his header was seized upon by Jerome, who squeezed a low shot past Neil Etheridge.

Vydra then put the hosts ahead from 12 yards when he got on the end of an Andre Wisdom cross to become the Championship’s leading scorer with 20.

Jerome then ran on to a through ball and finished to seal the win.
