Pregnancy joy for Scots’ Tory leader

- By Hilary Duncanson

SCOTTISH Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson yesterday announced she is pregnant and expecting her first child with partner Jen Wilson.

Ms Davidson, 39, said she and Ms Wilson, 36, are “excited and daunted”.

She posted a picture of them with their dog Wilson saying: “Our little family of three is becoming four.”

The arrival is due in autumn and Ms Davidson, tipped as a future UK Tory leader, insists she will still lead her party at Scottish elections in 2021.

She found out last month that an IVF procedure had been successful.

“Jen and I are delighted to say that we are starting a family,” she said.

“We weren’t sure it was going to happen for us but we’re really happy it has.”

She said carrying on with her job was “simply doing what thousands of working women do every year”.

Ms Davidson, MSP for Edinburgh Central, said: “While this news may be unexpected for many, let me reassure constituents and voters across Scotland that there is no change to my political commitment.”

She said she struggled with morning sickness, at one point having to leave the Holyrood chamber.

She said: “I’ve had a bit of the fatigue, the nausea and the dizzy spells.

“We have a very busy few months ahead.

“I am looking forward to throwing myself into events with customary gusto.”

Theresa May tweeted: “Wonderful news! I’m very happy for you and Jen.”
