Heartless insults of neighbour from hell

- By Michael Knowles

A NEIGHBOUR from hell shouted abuse at an elderly couple and taunted them about their daughter’s infertility.

Retired couple Audrey and Cyril Hull used to be friends with Pamela Cutts, 57. But toward the end of last year the atmosphere changed, a court heard.

Mrs Hull, 74, said: “She would call us muppets, but the worst bit that really upset me and my husband was what she said about our daughter.

“I had told her that in confidence, as at one time we were good friends.”

Cutts, from Birch, Essex, admitted harassment when she appeared at Colchester magistrates’ court earlier this week.

She was given a one year restraining order, fined £250 and ordered to pay £135 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Mrs Hull and her husband, who is 79, have lived at their home for almost 50 years.

They said the harassment had affected both of them badly.

Mrs Hull, who is now taking antidepressants, added: “For me, it got to the point where I wouldn’t go outside if I knew she was there.”

Their daughter Tina Townsend, a company director, said she had £1,000 worth of CCTV installed at her parents’ home last year. She explained “it was to get enough evidence to make people understand my parents were not just moaning about a neighbour”.

In footage taken in September, Ms Townsend can be seen in her parents’ driveway, saying goodbye and getting into her car.

As Mrs Hull walks back to the house, Cutts can be heard shouting: “Is that the old slapper I saw just now, the one who can’t have kids?”

In another video from September, Mr Hull is opening his garage, while Cutts is cutting her hedge.

She says: “Has your daughter had any kids yet? Oh no, she can’t can she? That’s right, she can’t.”

The next month Cutts is seen shouting abuse at Mrs Hull as she gets out of her car. Cutts says: “Big smell of **** around here.”

Mrs Hull said: “When she started shouting over the fence about Tina not being able to have children I thought that was awful and I still feel that was wrong.

“I don’t understand why she would do that.”

Tina, who is married and has two step-children, said they had requested that the council forces Cutts to move from the property.

She said: “All they [my parents] want to do is finish their days in peace and harmony in a place they call home.”

Asked what had caused Cutts’ offensive behaviour, Tina, who is now in counselling, said: “We don’t know. Mum and dad were really good friends with her.

“Then she had an accident involving her moped. Shortly after she came back [from hospital] she just turned.”
