Kane unfazed by PFA joke

- Peter Edwards

SOFIANE BOUFAL has been exiled from Southampton’s first team as punishment for his involvement in a bust-up during the 3-2 Premier League defeat by Chelsea on April 14.

Moroccan Boufal, right, reportedly refused to warm up after being named as a substitute. “He’s training with the under-23s,” said manager Mark Hughes. “He needs to rebuild a bit of trust.” THE PFA say that no complaint has been made by Harry Kane or his family about a joke told by chairman Ben Purkiss at their awards ceremony last Sunday.

It was reported Kane and his camp were unhappy with Purkiss’s remark that the striker was “so prolific that he is able to score without touching the ball”.

This was a reference to the goal he claimed against Stoke this month, Tottenham launching a successful appeal to have it credited to Kane after the striker said he got a faint touch to a Christian Eriksen effort. It was also reported that Swindon defender Purkiss’s position at the PFA was under threat, but yesterday they said in a statement: “We can confirm that no complaints have been received by the PFA from Harry Kane, Harry’s representatives or his family.

“At no point has any party demanded an apology. Out of courtesy Ben Purkiss contacted Harry personally to explain that the comment had been taken out of context.” SCOTT ARFIELD and Dean Marney will leave Burnley this summer, manager Sean Dyche has confirmed. Marney, 34, left, will end an eight-year association with the Clarets, while Arfield, 29, has spent five years at Turf Moor and now looks bound for his boyhood club Rangers. Marney has not played a senior game since a knee injury in January 2017.

KEITH CURLE will leave his role as Carlisle boss at the end of the season. Curle, 54, took over in 2014 with the club bottom of League Two. They are now 10th.
