ADAM MILNER stuck the boot into his boyhood club as Castleford racked up a 10th straight win over their bitter rivals.

Tigers forward Milner, above, grew up supporting Wakefield and was a ball boy when Trinity beat their local rivals in a famous relegation shoot-out in 2006.

But last night he showed where his loyalties lie by scoring a vital try in the 55th minute to effectively settle a tight match.

It heaped more misery on Chris Chester’s visitors.

After an outstanding 2017 campaign, Trinity are struggling badly for wins this season and this latest setback marked their seventh loss from their last eight. The drizzly conditions made

handling conditions difficult and there was precious little freeflowing rugby.

After three penalties from scrum-half Luke Gale put Castleford 6-0 up, the first try arrived in the 27th minute. Jamie Ellis threw an exquisite long pass out to Greg Minikin and the winger dived over the line in the right corner. Wakefield hit back four minutes before half-time when replacement hooker Tyler Randell dummied past the home defence and went over the line.

The Wakefield fans in the 7,485 crowd thought their side had scored in the 48th minute when Max Jowitt went over, only for the score to be chalked off because of an obstruction.

At the other end, Tom Johnstone sent Minikin into touch before he could ground the ball. Then it was time for Milner to take centre stage and give Castleford – who had lost Gale to injury at the break – vital breathing space.

Milner celebrated his try with gusto and there would be no way back for Wakefield.

To rub salt in the wound, former hooker Paul McShane raced down the left to score a fine third try for Castleford in the 76th minute.
