I must be better than Biggar

- Steffan Thomas

GARETH ANSCOMBE is determined to show Wales rival Dan Biggar he is the man to lead Warren Gatland’s attack this summer.

The fly-halves go head-to-head when Anscombe’s Cardiff Blues face the Ospreys in this afternoon’s Judgement Day clash at the Principality Stadium.

The game forms part of a double-header of Welsh regional fixtures with the Scarlets hoping to keep their Guinness Pro14 title hopes alive against the struggling Dragons.

Anscombe hopes he can get the better of his international teammate Biggar in what is an audition for Wales’ summer Test against South Africa and their tour of Argentina.

“It’s always nice playing in the No 10 shirt, especially since I haven’t played there since the Six Nations,” said Anscombe.

“It’s going to be a big challenge coming up against Dan, who is a hell of a competitor. It’s always nice having those little match-ups so we are looking forward to it. There are a lot of internationals playing and it’s going to be a fantastic occasion.

“It’s nice to play well in these big games and I am sure the selectors are watching. It is very important I play well.” The Judgement Day clashes at the home of Welsh rugby are set to be played out in front of a Cardiff crowd of more than 60,000.

Anscombe hopes it will be a dress rehearsal for some big Wales clashes in the months ahead.

“It’s always great to play in front of a big crowd and hopefully the sun will be out and people will come to the stadium and support the teams,” he said.
