Carlos v Conte is moan event

- Alex Bywater

CARLOS CARVALHAL has told Antonio Conte to stop moaning about budgets because being Swansea boss has been the hardest job in the Premier League.

Conte looks set to depart Chelsea at the end of the campaign and hit out at what he saw as insufficient support in the January transfer window.

Yet he has been given a staggering £236million to strengthen his squad this season – money Carvalhal can only dream of.

“I have never been at a club that said to me, ‘You have this money, let’s try to bring players to achieve what you want’,” said Carvalhal. “I have managed with just peanuts and of all the jobs in the Premier League, ours is the hardest. Because when we arrived we were five points adrift at the bottom and no one else was playing in this condition.”

Swansea are only four points above the bottom three but can take confidence from the fact they have beaten both Arsenal and Liverpool at home.

As for Conte, he intends to give Gary Cahill the best possible chance of making the plane to Russia this summer. The centreback has forced his way into Chelsea’s line-up after falling out of favour but his prospects of making Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad have taken a hit.

“When you have to go to play this competition, the World Cup, CARVALHAL: Dig it’s important

to have players with great experience because the pressure will become very strong,” said Conte.

“Gary is deserving to play. To play and then to have the chance to go to the World Cup.

“But I have always shown great respect for Southgate. He’s a really good, important manager. He has to make the best decision for the national team.”
