On me ‘ead... Now Becks has planets tattoo on his scalp

- By Mark Reynolds

FOOTBALL ace David Beckham has gone for a header with his latest tattoo... and it is out of this world.

His latest inking, which is above his left ear, is of the planets in the solar system.

The former England and Manchester United star, 42, showed it off during his trip to Macau in China on Sunday.

Speaking about his tattoos, which add up to more than 40, he said: “They’re about the important people in my life who I want to have with me always.”

Many of his inkings have been the work of Mark Mahoney at his Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlour in Los Angeles.

He said of Beckham’s latest design: “It’s as if he’s at one with the universe when he’s getting tattooed. He is very tough.”

Mahoney, who also counts actor Johnny Depp and singer Lady Gaga among his clientele, added: “I’ve a handful of people who will get tattooed all the time, but not as much as David. He is the only one who doesn’t feel pain.

“He sits amazing and is the ideal customer. He makes for good conversation. He has great skin but he gets it in the sun too much. He can take the longest session I’ve ever done.”

The father-of-four, who is married to former Spice Girl, Victoria, had his first tattoo after the birth of his oldest son, Brooklyn in 1999. He had his name etched on his back in classic Gothic script.

In 2000, he had a guardian angel inked in the middle of his back. The design’s idea was the angel would watch over Brooklyn’s name. In the same year, he pledged his devotion to Victoria with a tattoo of her name in Hindi script. Experts later pointed out the tribute was misspelt. After the birth of their second son Romeo in 2002, he added his name above the guardian angel.

He also had his number 7 football shirt number tattooed on his inner arm in Roman numerals.

In 2003, he had the words “So that I love and cherish” tattooed on his left arm in Latin and on his right “Spiritual perfection”.

Later that year, he celebrated his move to Real Madrid by having the cross inked on his back.

His other tattoos include Jesus being carried by three cherubs, believed to represent him and his three sons, and a woman in a forest on his chest.

Another image of Jesus above his ribcage is based on the painting The Man Of Sorrows by Matthew R. Brooks. It is believed to be a tribute to his grandfather Joe, who passed away in 2009, aged 83. A figure tattooed on his hand was from a drawing by his daughter Harper, six.
