Gok says work helps conceal his demons

TV FASHION guru Gok Wan says his addiction to work will inevitably kill him but fears stopping means he’ll have to face his demons.

“Work is one of my biggest enemies… it has always been a difficult one as if I am being really honest I know work will be the thing that kills me and is probably the reason why I am going to die of exhaustion. [However] it is a solution to so many problems in my personality,” says the 43-year-old, whose CV includes stylist, presenter, designer, DJ, author, cook, CEO of Beautiful Events and Productions and This Morning consultant.

“Whilst I work I feel needed and I’m achieving – that goes back to being bullied. I also have not got to face the other stuff [which leads to] anorexia and whilst I am working I am exhausted which means I don’t have time to have a relationship, which justifies why I am single and justifies the way I think I look and how unattractive and all that stuff.”

The former How To Look Good Naked presenter, whose UK fashion consulting tour kicks off in September, adds: “You could take shopping, cigarettes or coffee away from me, fine I will get on. But I don’t think you could take work away from me. It does define me and it is filling a void.”
