Harry arrests slide to steady Spurs

between May 24 and the end of qualification on September 2 multiplied by 1.5 to weight selection towards in-form players. But as things stand Tyrrell Hatton leads the European list. Likely to start a fight in a phonebox on the course – sometimes with himself – he goes into the Aggressive pod. Then comes cool, calm and collected Justin Rose – Steady pod for the Olympic champion.. Next comes Jon Rahm – Aggressive, definitely – and Ross Fisher, a Steady guy. Move across to the world list and Bjorn’s sorting hat could put Rory McIlroy into Showman, or perhaps Aggressive in Ryder Cup week. Then there is Tommy Fleetwood who, with his flowing locks and easy charm lends himself towards Showman, even if the pulse rate of Europe’s No1 is Steady. Then you have Sergio Garcia – Showman – and Alex Noren, Steady as you like. Say Bjorn chooses Ian Poulter – currently one place outside an automatic spot on the world list – as one of his four captain’s picks. Then he could have: Aggressive – Hatton, Rahm, McIlroy; Showman – Fleetwood, Garcia, Poulter; Steady – Rose, Fisher, Noren. Azinger’s final trick in 2008 was to allow each pod to pick their final member. If Bjorn did the same, who would each pod go for? Steady, with Rose, would surely go for Henrik Stenson. The Showmen may well plump for Paul Casey. Aggressive? How about Thomas Pieters? That is one decent European team. Maybe Azinger’s master plan has something to it after all. AT WEMBLEY
