Mo, he’s rubbish in training…

- Peter Edwards

MOHAMED SALAH is a trainingground pussycat who morphs into a raging tiger on the pitch.

Egypt team-mate Ahmed Elmohamady says the Liverpool star becomes a different beast when he steps out to play for real.

The Reds’ 43-goal marvel has had an amazing first season at Anfield, and Elmohamady hopes he will have a Champions League winners’ medal in his pocket by the time they meet up for the World Cup. “It’s easy in training against him but in a game he turns into a different player,” said the Aston Villa winger. “He is one of the best players in the world. We are all happy for him.

“Mo-Mo is a great lad. He’s been excellent this season. Hopefully he can continue in the same form and help us in the World Cup.

“He took the chance to leave Chelsea and go away to prove everyone wrong. And he did it at Fiorentina and Roma then came back to the Premier League and you see what he can do now.” If Salah can shine in Russia he will have a chance of beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have shared the past 10 world’s best player awards.

But Elmohamady feels Salah still has a way to go, saying: “It’s only one season. He’s been good at Roma. But to reach the level of Ronaldo and Messi, he has to do it for seven or eight years.”

Salah meanwhile will face no disciplinary action from the FA after his clash with Bruno Martins Indi during Liverpool’s goalless draw with Stoke on Saturday.
