Spamalot in chance to ham it up again

-

FANS of Monty Python are in for a treat as a film version of the stage show Spamalot is in the pipeline.

Coming full circle, the hit musical based on Arthurian legend and inspired by 1975’s Monty Python And The Holy Grail is to get its own big-screen version – with 20th Century Fox snapping up the rights.

With Python Eric Idle, left, who co-wrote the play which opened in the West End in 2006, as screenwriter and producer it promises to just as silly as the first film version. The 75-year-old co-created the original alongside 76, 74, 77, 78, and the late

who died in 1989 aged 48. An insider says that the new production will be more than just an adaptation of the live action show which features some of the film’s most memorable jokes including galloping coconuts, killer rabbits, dancing nuns and the Knights Who Say Ni.

The five surviving Pythons last performed together in 2014 at London’s O2 arena but Terry Jones has since been struck down with dementia that has left him struggling to speak, making it highly unlikely they will reunite. Meanwhile Eric’s memoirs, Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life: A Sortabiography, will be published later this year. He said: “It was time to tell my tale before I suffer from Hamnesia, which is what happens to elderly actors.”
