Wenger farewell no friendly

- Matthew Dunn

ARSENAL risk having to pull out of a tour of Singapore if they allow tomorrow’s rivals Burnley to snatch sixth place.

The top seven teams in the Premier League will all qualify for Europe, but the last of those will start their Europa League campaign on July 26.

That is the day Arsenal have agreed to play a rematch against Atletico Madrid – who knocked them out of this season’s semi-finals on Thursday – in Singapore. A match against Paris SaintGermain is scheduled 48 hours later.

An Arsenal spokesman said yesterday the club would withdraw from the International Champions Cup if there was a date clash.

So Arsene Wenger’s last game at the Emirates has even more meaning, because Burnley are just three points behind.

Wenger is set for a guard of honour tomorrow and every player to have played 100 times for him has been invited to a party later.

Wenger, right, said: “I’ve had time to adjust to this being my last home game and to get that into my head. Twenty-two years of your life and to walk away is not easy.” Burnley boss Sean Dyche watched on TV as Wenger’s hopes of one last trophy were dashed on Thursday. Now he is aiming to ruin Wenger’s home farewell. Dyche joked: “I bet he’s just delighted his last home game is against us. “But no, he’s a legend. Whatever happens, I’m sure there’ll be some special moments for him and rightly so.”
