Fabianski says Swansea have the know-how to beat drop once again

best efforts, and paid the price with his job. Since Carvalhal took over, Swansea’s form has improved, but they remain in danger, with matches against relegation rivals Southampton and Stoke to follow. Fabianski believes the players will deliver what is required to survive after coming through a similar scenario last term. “When it came down to it last season we were able to deliver. It wasn’t always nice football, but when we needed to scrap for results, we managed to do it,” he said. “That experience is something which might play a big part now. “In January people were saying it’s over for Swansea. In football sometimes it’s about proving people wrong and that’s how I look at this situation. We want to show people we can still compete in this league.” The Swans face a seasondefining week and Tuesday’s home clash with Saints could decide their fate. But first comes Bournemouth, a game for which Carvalhal has been boosted by the return of captain Federico Fernandez following a knee injury. If Swansea do avoid the drop, Fabianski will have played a key role. The Poland international will travel to Russia for this summer’s World Cup with only a year left on his contract but insists club duty is his sole focus now. “I have this feeling that it’s all clicking for me, it’s all coming together,” he said. “I’ve got the experience of playing big games and I think I’m consistent.

“Swansea have invested in me and they took a chance because I was a second-choice goalkeeper with not much experience when it came to Premier League games.

“There was a question mark over whether it would work out or not. Now I just want to give something back.”

Fabianski’s opposite number today, Asmir Begovic, says Bournemouth’s survival would prove he was right to walk out on Chelsea.

Former title winner Begovic quit the Blues to join Eddie Howe’s men – who can seal their top-flight future with a point today – in a £10m deal last summer.

Asked if safety would vindicate his decision, Begovic said: “For the short term, yes. It has been great to have the trust of the manager and the players so, hopefully, I have been consistent enough.

“I want to keep achieving, keep winning and keep this club moving in the right direction so there is plenty more to achieve.”
