Coventry seal first play-offs
CELEBRATIONS were in unison on Saturday as Coventry and Morecambe played out a goalless draw that satisfied both teams’ needs.
The result meant Coventry reached their first play-offs and Morecambe survived relegation to the National League. They earned safety at the expense of Barnet, who went down despite beating bottom-placed Chesterfield.
Coventry will now face Notts County and manager Mark Robins, right, said: “We beat Notts County on the first game of the season and lost at their place. It is about how people handle the experience of the play-offs.”
Morecambe manager Jim Bentley said: “I am delighted for the boys, this is a massive achievement for us. We are going to enjoy this and be positive as we look to improve.”
Barnet manager Martin Allen was optimistic for the future despite his side being relegated.
“I’m disappointed to be going down but there’s a lot to look forward to,” he said. “The players have been outstanding since I’ve been here.” Lincoln boss Danny Cowley says his side will need to improve after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Yeovil secured a semi-final with Exeter. “We’ll need to be a lot better than we were,” he said.
In the National League play-offs, Borehamwood and Tranmere will battle for a place in League Two.
Borehamwood edged Sutton 3-2 in their semi-final while Tranmere beat Ebbsfleet 4-2.
