EVERY little girl dreams of being a princess – and Meghan Markle was no different.
Ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry next week, newly released footage shows an eight-year-old Meghan dressed up as a queen at a childhood birthday party.
With her young friends acting as servants, the 11-minute film – called Your Royal Highness – shows the bride-to-be demanding more cookies and a pretty dress.
The video was shot at the ninth birthday party of Meghan’s childhood friend Ninaki Priddy in January 1990.
In the film, Meghan sits regally on a red blanket as another little girl, Melody, comes over and bows deeply. Another child asks: “Your Highness, your Highness, isn’t there anything to do around this kingdom any more?” Meghan responds: “Yes, make 900,000 cookies… and sew me a nice dress.”
When one child asks: “Can I go take a walk, your Highness?” Meghan puts on a grand voice and replies “Yes, you may”, before shouting “Ten minute break!”
Moments later she yells: “Ten minute break is up. Faster sewing! Faster cooking!”
Ninaki, who was Meghan’s maid of honour at her first wedding to Trevor Engelson in 2011, revealed: “The royal story came out of the blue, it wasn’t something we had done before. She just came up with it on the spot.”
Meghan and Ninaki first met at Hollywood’s private Little Red School House, which they both joined at the age of two.
For years, they were “like sisters” but the pair fell out when Ninaki disapproved of the way Meghan broke up with Trevor.
In a book about Meghan by Andrew Morton – Princess Diana’s biographer – Ninaki said: “Meghan was always fascinated by the Royal Family. She wants to be Princess Diana 2.0.”
