the ground. Jess said: “Holly saw little Spencer outside with people surrounding him and she ran straight down the stairs to him.”

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were called and Spencer was rushed to Algarve University Hospital Centre in Faro, but despite a battle by doctors to save his life, he died of his injuries.

Holly, who is originally from Perth, Australia, and Spencer’s British father Robert Devlin, are said to be “beyond devastated”.

The couple live in Lagos where 32-year-old Robert runs a business.

A GoFundMe page was set up a day after the tragedy to raise money for funeral costs.

A post on the page reads: “Yesterday was the worst day of Rob and Holly’s lives. Yesterday morning their little baby boy Spencer had a tragic accident and was taken to Faro hospital in Portugal where they did all they could for him but unfortunately he just couldn’t fight any longer and last night their beautiful baby boy Spencer grew his little wings and left all of his family behind.

“They are beyond devastated and would like to let everyone know, but at the moment would just like some time to come to terms with their loss and be around family.

Grieve

“I am setting this page up to help take the stress of the funeral and other bills away so they can grieve the loss of their little boy properly.

“It honestly breaks my heart in a million pieces for Holly and her family. Rest in peace Spencer. God bless you xx.”

Portuguese police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Spencer’s death.
