Corrie star ‘will not be axed’ over arrest

- By Jan Disley

TROUBLED Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell was back on set yesterday just days after his arrest over a domestic dispute.

ITV has dismissed reports that the 53-year-old actor could face the sack after failing to turn up to work last Friday, the day after a bust-up at his home in Timperley, Cheshire.

A spokesman for the soap said: “Michael missed one day of filming when he had only one scene to record.

“The scene was filmed without him as Coronation Street adapts on these occasions, so his absence didn’t affect his fellow cast or crew.

“It’s also not true to say he’s ‘on very thin ice’ or that his role is in jeopardy. Michael has been filming with us this week as normal.”

Le Vell, who has played mechanic Kevin Webster since 1983, was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of assault after a bust-up at the house he shares with fiance Louise Gibbons, 42.

She is said to have been there when he fell down a flight of stairs as he argued with somebody else at the property.

Le Vell was arrested but released without charge.

Greater Manchester Police have said they treated it as a “domestic” incident and will not be taking further action.

Le Vell has since described what happened as a “silly row” that got out of hand.
