Evil carer stole from the dead

- By Paul Jeeves

A CARE company owner who milked thousands of pounds from the accounts of two pensioners has been jailed for 34 months.

Dain Parsons continued stealing after a 99-year-old victim had died and blew the money on luxuries and enjoyed holidays to Egypt.

Parsons, 63, first helped herself to money when she had difficulties paying a tax bill.

That sparked systematic raids on the pensioners’ accounts after she was trusted to be given bank cards to help with their day-to-day expenses.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how the former NHS mental health nurse had set up her own company Complex Care Newark.

Kathleen Goddard, prosecuting, said: “All of the offences relate to the defendant effectively milking the bank accounts of elderly ladies to whom she had contractual and moral obligations of care.”

She told the court that the family of the 99-year-old had trusted Parsons to spend the cash in a Santander savings account on their relative.

A month before the pensioner’s death Parsons transferred the balance to the woman’s current account and spent the cash.

Miss Goddard added: “She drained her funds and left her with an unauthorised overdraft of £1,000.”

Heartless Parsons even withdrew £150 on the day the woman died and took more than £3,000 in total.

Police found out about the offences when Parsons, of Collingham, Notts, was arrested for fleecing more than £8,000 from an 85-yearold stroke victim.

Parsons pleaded guilty to four charges of fraud and one of forgery. Judge Steven Coupland told her: “Your actions were repeated, callous and mean.”
