Deutsch sent to
TALENTED jump jockey Charlie Deutsch, 21, has been jailed for 10 months after he was found guilty of dangerous driving while over the drink drive limit and escaping police custody.
Deutsch was stopped by the police in March after a night out with fellow jockeys Hugh Nugent and Richard Patrick in Cheltenham where he was breathalysed and arrested.
He then returned to his car and drove off, reaching speeds of 100mph, but was eventually stopped when a stinger was deployed.
Deutsch achieved the most notable of his 90 winners when partnering Yala Enki to victory in the Grand National Trial at Haydock in February. He pleaded with officers, saying: “Please don’t, this will ruin me. I’m a jockey. I have to drive 50,000 miles a year,” before driving off in his own car .
He was sentenced to four months for escaping lawful custody, six months for dangerous driving and four months concurrent for excess alcohol.
Also, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months and will have to take an extended retest. He was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the officer injured during the escape from custody.
Paul Struthers, chief executive of the Professional Jockeys Association, said Deutsch is hoping to appeal STRADIVARIUS, the mount of Frankie Dettori, enhanced his Ascot Gold Cup claims and kept alive the possibility of landing the Weatherbys Hamilton Stayers’ Million bonus after an impressive victory in yesterday’s MansionBet Yorkshire Cup.
