Hammers seal Pellegrini deal

him the April Manager of the Month award and convinced the Albion power-brokers that he deserved a proper crack at it.

Chief executive Mark Jenkins, left, broke the news to Moore that he was going to be offered the job after returning from a trip to China for talks with the club’s owners.

Jenkins said: “Darren was head and shoulders over the other candidates. Darren is the right man for the job. More than anything he encapsulates everything we want at this club.”

And Jenkins confirmed Moore will have the final say on any players brought into the relegated outfit.

He said: “With regard to transfers I can say that there will definitely be no players brought in without Darren saying ‘Yes’. There’s no point bringing players here that Darren doesn’t want. The club doesn’t have to sell anyone to balance the books.” MANUEL Pellegrini last night agreed a three-year-deal to become West Ham manager and was handed a £60million transfer budget.

The 64-year-old Chilean, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2014, will earn £6m a year. He flew into London on Sunday night for talks with co-owner David Sullivan and the deal was sealed yesterday. Pellegrini, who also had successful spells at Malaga and Villarreal, was released from his contract at Chinese Super League club Hebei China Fortune on Sunday, which enabled West Ham to make their ambitious move.

Pellegrini will have total control over transfers at the London Stadium and is set to bring in Malaga’s Mario Husillos as his new head of recruitment.

One of Pellegrini’s first signings is set to be Chile midfielder Charles Aranguiz, who would cost around £8m, from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Scot David Moyes left West Ham last week after his short-term deal as manager came to an end with both parties unable to agree a way forward. COVENTRY City will wear a one-off strip, right, for next Monday’s League Two play-off final against Exeter City after running out of this season’s home kit.

Chief executive Dave Boddy said: “Having been unable to obtain new replacements of the existing kit, we have had to source a one-off shirt from our kit supplier.”
