Victim, 105, of an evil con artist

- By John Twomey

A COLD-hearted conwoman who stole the £6,000 life savings of a 105-year-old man and his wife was jailed for nine years yesterday.

Derrol Flynn was branded “wicked” for tricking her way into their home by flashing a fake police ID card – a SIM-card holder on an old boot lace.

As she wandered around the house posing as a detective, Flynn grabbed five envelopes stuffed with money.

Each bore the name of one of the couple’s five great-grandchildren and was meant for a “holiday of a lifetime” at Disneyland Paris.

The bed-bound pensioner and his wife of 99 were distraught when they discovered the theft, a court heard.

Heroin addict Flynn, 45, quickly blew the money on drugs and drink.

In an impact statement, the wife said: “It has shattered my confidence. I used to go shopping and walk to the bus. Now I won’t go out. I keep thinking this woman will come back to do something worse.”

Flynn, a serial fraudster with a violent temper, swore and shouted: “That’s a lie!” as the details of her appalling crime were read out at Birmingham Crown Court.

She had only just been freed after serving half of an eight-year jail sentence for similar crimes when she tricked her way into the couple’s home in Bournville last June.

She targeted three other victims and punched one in the face when her cover was blown.

Recorder Martin Butterworth told her: “I’m quite sure that one of your wicked reasons for selecting the very old and vulnerable was your hope that if caught, they might pass away before you could be tried, or be too frail, anxious or unable because of their age, to testify against you.”

Flynn, of Kitts Green, admitted one burglary and three attempted ones. Other victims included a pensioner of 80 and a blind woman of 55.
