Firm’s new Eco duvets have recycling covered
FURNISHINGS group Trendsetter International has launched the UK’s first duvets made from recycled products.
Each Eco duvet, produced under The Fine Bedding Company brand, has a 10.5 tog warmth rating, uses fibres spun from waste plastic water bottles and comes in packaging that is also made from recycled materials.
Claire Watkin, MD of the Manchester-based firm, said: “We have been working for the last four years to reduce the carbon footprint of our products through sustainable manufacturing, better quality and performance. Each double duvet removes 120 post-consumer waste PET bottles from landfill.”
The duvets are made by the company’s partner in Estonia and are being stocked by department store chain Debenhams. Trendsetter, which has a £22million annual turnover and employs 40 in the UK, also makes pillows, mattress toppers and protectors.
“We’re delighted Debenhams is supporting us, giving the new product its first high-street presence,” added Watkin.
“We’re actively continuing to identify ways that materials once considered as waste can be turned into luxury products for the home.
“While we were already developing this product well before Blue Planet II heightened consumer awareness, plastic pollution has been an important catalyst to manufacturers, retailers and consumers wanting to address the issue of using sustainable products.”
