News to shake and stir Bond ...his DB5’s on sale for £1.6m

- By Adrian Hearn

THE Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in GoldenEye is set to sell for £1.6 million.

Pierce Brosnan, now 65, raced the British sports car around the Monaco hills in his first appearance as 007 in 1995.

He was filmed in the chase with Xenia Onatopp, the Ferrari-driving assassin, played by Famke Janssen, 53.

After filming the movie, which also starred Izabella Scorupco, 47, the car was used by Eon Productions for promoting GoldenEye and the Aston Martin DB7.

In 2001 it was auctioned in London as part of a James Bond sale, fetching a then record-breaking £157,750.

It was bought by entrepreneur Max Reid who is now set to make a 10-fold profit when he sells it in July. The 1965 sports car has been entered into Bonhams Goodwood Festival Of Speed Sale in July.

Sholto Gilbertson, of Bonhams, said: “The DB5 is one of the most recognisable and desirable British classic cars in the world. Add in the fact that it was actually driven by Bond – this car is something very special indeed.”

Under the bonnet is a 4-litre engine which gives a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 145mph.

The Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger was sold in 2010 for £ 2.9 million.

The Brosnan DB5 will be on display at Englefield House, near Reading, on June 2 ahead of its sale. The Aston Martin and GoldenEye stars Janssen, left, Brosnan and Scorupco
