TOP TIPS AND TRICKS FOR TONED UPPER ARMS

-

JUDY MURRAY recently revealed that watching slow-motion TV footage of herself applauding at Wimbledon had given her second thoughts about baring her upper arms.

“I’m not exactly big but everything wobbles in slow motion, especially in a vest top,” said the 58-year-old mother of tennis stars Andy and Jamie Murray.

Upper arms are notoriously hard to tone and it is a problem that gets worse with age. Three-quarters of British women say they are more dissatisfied with their arms than with any other part of their body and one in four has stopped wearing sleeveless tops altogether.

Luckily there are steps you can take to get your arms in shape. Even better, there are some clever ways to fake it when you don’t have time to spend hours in the gym.

Lifting weights will help define muscles but if you are overweight, you will need to lose excess body fat by increasing your cardio workouts and eating a healthy balanced diet.

Make sure to lose weight slowly otherwise you risk ending up with loose skin.

Once you’ve lost weight, swimming, yoga and boxing are all great ways to add definition to biceps and triceps. Invest in a resistance band so you can tone up at home. Banish bumpy skin on the backs of the arms with Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion, £22.50 (ameliorate-skincare.com). It has lactic acid to exfoliate and hydrate the skin, leaving it soft and glowing.

Cheat better muscle definition with “tantouring”, using self-tan to fake the appearance of sculpted upper arms.

First apply base tan and then blend a tiny amount of darker tan along your inner arm from your underarm to your elbow.
