Ronaldo will play until he is 41

- Gideon Brooks

REAL MADRID legend Cristiano Ronaldo has warned Liverpool he remains at the peak of his powers. The striker says that he intends to keep playing into his fifth decade. Ronaldo, 33, enters Saturday’s Champions League final looking for a fifth European crown, and is the leading scorer in the competition with 15 goals. He said: “Right now I have a biological age of 23.

“I can keep playing until I’m 41. I’m feeling good, happy.

“We’re playing another final and the fans are behind Cristiano.”

Much has been made of the history awaiting Real’s players should they manage to win three Champions League titles in a row to become the first side to do so twice – and the first since Bayern Munich’s third European Cup in 1976.

But as ever with Ronaldo, personal milestones are never far away. Should he hit the net against Liverpool he would become the first man to score in four Champions League finals.

Ronaldo’s pledge to keep going may have been timed to dampen speculation that Neymar will be added to Real Madrid’s squad in the summer. And yesterday he seemed less than enthusiastic about the possible arrival of the Brazil striker.

“I’ve been here eight years and people always say 50 players are coming but in the end no one comes,” said Ronaldo.

“People think lots are going to come but the ones who take us to finals are the same ones. They are all here.”
