Shaun pays staggering price

SHREWSBURY winger Shaun Whalley has pulled the plug on his own stag do to focus on his promotion dream.

The 30- year- old is due to marry fi ancee Jessica on June 8 in Cyprus before they honeymoon in Majorca.

Jessica had her hen party last weekend but plans to celebrate Whalley’s last days as a single man have been scrapped with all focus on the League One play- off fi nal against Rotherham on Sunday at Wembley.

“I’ve missed out on a stag do,” said Whalley. “I’m getting married soon, so I won’t be able to have one now.

“Because we were up there challenging for promotion, I thought we would get into the playoffs or the top two so I never actually planned anything. I think my team- mate Jon Nolan is more bothered than me!”

Rotherham’s Paul Warne hopes that a Wembley visit will herald the start of payback time for the club’s fans , a little over a year since they crashed out of the second tier in ignominious style.

A campaign boasting just fi ve wins resulted in the Millers dropping down with only 23 points – the lowest total since three points for a win was introduced almost 40 years ago.

“I know how diffi cult it is to support a team that never wins and that was us last season,” said Warne.

“At least this year we have given the fans something to smile about and be proud of.

“It’s just nice to fi nish the season with a Wembley fi nal.”
