our aspirations for this club. We both share the same philosophies to achieve long- term, sustainable success.

“This is a special club – we always strive to be creative in the way we work both on and off the pitch and will continue to stick to our principles in order to achieve the success this club deserves. A new worldclass stadium is just one of the factors that makes this one of the most exciting jobs in world football.

“We are already making plans to ensure we continue to build on the great work that everyone has contributed to over the past four years.”

Levy, who also handed new deals to back- room staff Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino and Toni Jimenez, said: “We have been on an extraordinary journey and the times ahead look even more exciting as the club enters the next phase in its history. Mauricio has fostered an incredible spirit in the team and has embraced a style of play our fans have loved watching.

“I know they will welcome this commitment by Mauricio.”

A string of young players were offered extended deals as soon as the season finished but centre- back Toby Alderweireld could be leaving the club, with Manchester United determined to make him part of a £ 100m spending spree before the end of the month. The Belgium international’s contract is set to expire next summer but if Spurs exercise an option to extend it by an extra year, he would be able to leave for £ 25m during that additional period.

Levy would want more than twice that this summer, with Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk’s £ 75m move to Liverpool in January having set the benchmark.
