SuBo’s advice for tonight’s BGT hopefuls

- By Frances Millar and Julia Kuttner

TONIGHT Susan Boyle returns to Britain’s Got Talent – the show that made her a household name.

The 2009 runner-up will be making a surprise appearance, to wish all the acts in the semi-finals good luck.

As one of the show’s most successful exports, she will also share some words of wisdom with this year’s crop of competitors.

The Scottish singer, now 57, who wowed the judges nine years ago with her breathtaking rendition in audition of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, makes it all sound so simple.

She says: “Have fun, go for it. Remember a packed lunch.” While SuBo, as she has been lovingly dubbed by fans, might have lost out to dance group Diversity on the show, she has gone on to sell 25 million records worldwide.

The YouTube clip of her stunning first round audition catapulted the singer to global stardom when it went viral.

It has been viewed more than 228 million times to date.

The Hall of Fame trailer which airs at the start of tonight’s episode has a few other familiar faces offering support too. Paul Potts, the opera singing winner from 2007, says: “If I were to give one piece of advice it would be go out there, enjoy yourself and don’t compare yourself with others.

“Only you can measure your own success.”

And last year’s winner, the 34-year-old classical pianist Tokio Myers, says: “You never know – this year it could be you.”

Among the stand-out performances gracing the stage in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams tonight is the choir of St Lawrence’s Primary School from the small Northern Irish village of Fintona.

The 48-strong team of 8-11-yearolds will give a super-sweet rendition of Pure Imagination from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Other highlights include Nick Page, a stand-up comedian from Gloucestershire, musician Shaquille Rayes and Dudley the Dancing Dog.

Britain’s Got Talent is on tonight at 8pm on ITV.

The semi-finals start this Monday at 7.30pm and will air every night until Friday, with the grand final kicking off at 7.30pm on Sunday, June 3.
