Little more than 24 hours after Meghan Markle left Cliveden House to marry Prince Harry, my husband and I received royal treatment when we tried out the recently-refurbished spa.
Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham, the National Trust site was transformed into a 47-bedroom hotel in 1985. Guests can enjoy two restaurants, a revamped spa and café, a state-of-the-art gym and hair studio – and Britain’s only listed outdoor pool.

Seven rooms offer everything from massages and facials to signature body treatments using the award-winning skincare range Oskia. Skinesis facials by renowned facialist Sarah Chapman are also available.
TREATMENTS TESTED Cliveden Warm Oil Massage, £90, 60 minutes
This tailor-made treatment, using a combination of Eastern and Western massage techniques, was perfect for easing my husband’s aches and pains, particularly in his neck and shoulders. After the top-to-toe treatment, he said he felt like a new man.
The Garden Oasis Purifying Experience, £160, 90 minutes
This all-encompassing face and body treatment combines massage with acupressure and reflexology to help stimulate the natural detoxifying process.
My therapist used Anna Maria oil, a fragrance created by Oskia Skincare for the Cliveden Body Collection which I found calming and relaxing. After starting with all-over body brushing, my therapist cleansed and exfoliated my face before applying a mask. She then massaged my legs, arms, back and scalp. Afterwards I felt totally de-stressed and my skin looked bright and rejuvenated.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
Prices start at £445 per night for a club room. An Oskia Spa Day, consisting of a Glow On The Go facial and warm-oil massage, costs £185pp and includes full use of the spa facilities, lunch in the spa kitchen, access to the 376-acre estate and soft drinks, coffee and tea throughout the day.
