Ship with touch of class
THIS is the perfect ship for a long, relaxing voyage, one that has all the comforts you could wish for without the hustle and bustle of some modern-day floating resorts.
Columbus is big enough to provide plenty of attractions but small enough (1,400 passengers) to feel cosy and unhurried, with two open-air pools and traditional wooden decks to stroll on.
She has a grand history, being christened by actress Audrey Hepburn in 1989, then sailing for P&O around the world. She was given a huge makeover before joining the Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet last summer.
There’s nightly entertainment in the expansive Palladium Show Lounge on two decks, and music in other spots too. There are eight inside bars – including the Dome Observatory and the traditional Taverner’s Pub – as well two on deck that are perfect for exotic climes.
There are five dining options, taking care of everything from lavish breakfasts to wonderful five-course dinners. There’s the seaside chic of the Plantation Bistro buffet, the sophistication of the Waterfront and the casual Pool Grill.
For an extra charge there’s the Chef’s Table (discreetly set in Waterfront) serving an eight-course tasting menu, Grill steakhouse and Fusion with its Indian cuisine.
There’s a spa, gym, library, card room and even a self-service laundry. Daytime activities and lectures enrich your time at sea… or you can just grab a sun lounger and lie back and let the world go by.
