Frail pensioners attacked by bogus police

- By Paul Jeeves

RUTHLESS robbers posing as police left two frail pensioners nursing shocking injuries.

Detectives in Nottingham yesterday released sickening photographs of the two elderly victims attacked by the bogus bobbies on Wednesday.

Police said there were two separate incidents in Clifton and Beeston areas that targeted two men aged 86 and 70.

Nationwide, there have been a spate of similar crimes over recent months and Nottinghamshire Police fear one gang may be specifically targeting vulnerable old people.

A spokesman for the force said: “At around 6.15pm on Wednesday June 6, four men knocked on a door in Beeston, claiming to be officers.

“When the man opened it, they forced their way in, knocking him to the floor. The 86-year-old suffered a cut and graze to his head.

“They left with a small amount of cash.”

In the second incident, around 11.20pm two men knocked on a door in Clifton, also shouting “police”.

The spokesman said: “When the 70-year-old man opened the door, he was hit over the head which caused a deep laceration. The offenders got away with bank cards.

“A dark-coloured vehicle was seen in the vicinity of both incidents.”

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
