Amal ‘melts’ over George

THEY might have been married for four years but Amal Clooney says husband George’s smile still makes her “melt”.

Her gushing assessment of her marriage to the Hollywood star reduced George, 57, to tears as he was honoured by the American Film Institute.

Amal also confessed that she had resigned herself to spinsterhood before she met George.

Addressing the star-studded room where the Ocean’s Eleven star received a lifetime achievement award, the lawyer said it was easier for her “to address a court on behalf of detainees than to speak publicly, as I am doing for the first time tonight, about my husband”.

She added: “I met George when I was 35 and starting to become quite resigned to the idea that I would be a spinster.

“Then we met and started hiding out in my London flat and very soon it felt like no matter what happened I would never want to be with anyone else.”

Despite being one of the most celebrated couples in Hollywood following their 2014 marriage and the birth of twins a year ago, Amal and George remain tight-lipped about their private life.

But as George looked on the 40-year-old revealed more about their marriage in her speech, adding: “I could not sleep when we were apart and I’m told that I would display a particular grin and head tilt when reading his text messages or the letters he would hide in my bag.”
