Angry PC ‘scared’ wife’s toyboy fireman

- By Paul Jeeves

A POLICEMAN could be sacked for confronting a toyboy fireman over a fling with his wife.

Robert Billings, 28, started an affair with Katherine Parnell, 49, while doing odd jobs at her house.

When husband Christopher, 48, found out, he paid him a visit, a misconduct hearing was told yesterday.

Mr Billings told the panel in Northallerton, North Yorks, he felt “worried and scared” seeing the officer drive down his street at about 5.50am.

The retained fireman had rung PC Parnell to apologise and invite him for a chat. But the PC was “very aggressive and abrupt” at his house a day later in August last year.

PC Parnell asked him for his phone to look through his messages so he unlocked it and handed it over.

“I was scared. I didn’t know what the outcome of that conversation would be,” Mr Billings said.

The visits left the officer accused of breaching standards of professional behaviour. The fling became public knowledge in his home town of Boroughbridge, North Yorks, when Mrs Parnell confided in a pal at her gym. When Mr Billings, who was engaged to somebody else, found out he said it had “ruined his life”. Mrs Parnell was not at the hearing but said that she and her husband had separated in 2016. “I am in shock. I was not expecting all this over something better suited to the Jeremy Kyle show,” she said. The hearing continues.
