MPs quiz Asda deal
THE chief executives of Sainsbury’s and Asda are to be grilled by MPs next week over the impact of their £14billion merger on suppliers.
Sainsbury’s boss Mike Coupe and Asda’s Roger Burnley have been summoned to appear before the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs committee on June 20.
The deal is set to save £500million and shoppers have been promised price cuts of up to 10 per cent.
Committee chairman Neil Parish said: “Grocery retailers do not have a great record of treating suppliers well and some are cautious about the merger.”
