RASHFORD INJURY SHOCK

Marcus facing a battle to be fit for England’s opener against Tunisia

- From Matthew Dunn in Repino

MARCUS RASHFORD is a World Cup doubt after picking up an injury in England’s final training session before flying out to Russia yesterday. The Manchester United star, who scored a 25-yard stunner in the warm-up game against Costa Rica on Thursday, filed through St Petersburg airport with the rest of the squad but manager Gareth Southgate admits he was carrying a problem that will be properly assessed today at England’s Repino tournament base.

Southgate said: “Marcus took a slight knock, but nothing too serious. We’ll look at that ahead of tomorrow’s session.”

England had a final 11 v 11 practice match at St George’s Park within the squad rather than risk a third friendly but Rashford’s injury is bound to cause concern with the opening game against Tunisia on Monday.

However, the squad seemed in high spirits upon touching down in Russia with 35 support staff joining the 23-man squad.
