Gran spends £16k on 1st birthday bash for grandson

A DOTING grandmother splashed out more than £16,000 on her grandson’s first birthday party.

The lavish event featured a golden high chair for the birthday boy and a surprise visit from Towie star Cara Kilbey.

More than 170 guests were invited to the celebration for little Danny Smith, organised by his granny, 53-year-old property developer Sharon Moseley.

Danny appeared to be thrilled as he sat in a bespoke rose gold high chair costing £650 from John Lewis during the party in which he was joined by 59 young friends.

His “throne” had been lined with black leatherette to match the colour of the busbies of toy soldiers dotted round the room.

Danny was kitted out for the day in three different outfits at a cost of £500. The children tucked into chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers and chips served on silver platters by waiters and waitresses while grown-ups dined on fresh seafood, salmon bagels, hot pork buns and jellied eels, at a cost of £2,500.

For dessert, tables were laden with cupcakes, cake, lollipops and a giant four-tiered birthday cake decorated with soldiers, against a red, white and blue background.

Decorations included gold-coloured balloons spelling out “Danny boy” and two 12ft balloon soldiers.

It cost £6,000 for a firm of party planners to stage the event at a wedding venue called That Amazing Place near Harlow, Essex.

Set in eight acres, it cost £3,000 to hire. They paid another £1,000 for entertainment and £2,500 on an open bar for parents.

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Cara, 30, shared images of the party with her 365,000 followers, saying: “It’s incredible! What a party.”

Mrs Moseley said: “If you are going to do it, you have to do it properly. You only live once so why don’t you enjoy it. I would do it again.”

She said the family wanted to make Danny’s birthday extra special because his mother Georgia, 26, had been told by doctors she may never be able to conceive.

In 2008 she was left fighting for her life and her pelvis was smashed in eight places after a horror car crash.

Georgia said: “I’m so grateful to my mum, she’s amazing.” The birthday boy Danny Moseley with, from left, his aunt Frankie Moseley, grandad Danny, grandmum Sharon and his mother Georgia
