Music mogul ‘lured boys with alcohol’

- By John Twomey

MUSIC mogul Jonathan King sexually assaulted 11 teenage boys after luring them into his car, plying them with drinks and promising they could meet celebrities, a court heard yesterday.

One alleged victim was given £200 on his birthday, an introduction to DJ Kenny Everett and a song dedication on Capital Radio, jurors were told.

The pop impresario, now 73, “used his position in the music industry and his fame” to prey on boys aged 13 to 16 in the 1970s and ’80s, Rosina Cottage, prosecuting, told Southwark Crown Court.

She said he would pick up the youngsters in a Daimler or RollsRoyce “and would flatter them and pretend that they could help him with research or promotion”.

He would then drive them to his home, where he would “give them alcohol or promise them sex with teenage girls and show them pornography”.

Ms Cottage said when they were “in his power and in no position to repel his advances, he would assault them” in a “game of manipulation and power”.

In April 1970, a 15-year-old boy King took home was shown into his music room and “his next memory was of waking naked in the defendant’s bed which had black shiny sheets”. King committed a serious sexual assault on him and gave him £5 for a taxi home, Ms Cottage said.

King, of Bayswater, west London, denies 17 indecent assault charges and seven of a serious sexual assault, from 1970 to 1988.

The trial continues.
