HARRY KANE will score. I have said it, that’s how confident I am and it trips off the tongue very well. He may struggle to find the back of the net in August again like he has every other year, but his failure this far to score in a major internatio­nal football tournament for the Under-21s and seniors is one drought that will end this summer. I am looking forward to him bursting onto the World Cup scene and making a real name for himself. In fact, I would go as far as to say that Gary Lineker may soon no longer be able to go on about how he is the only English player to win the World Cup Golden Boot.

Good as Gary had been in the league that season, nobody had been talking about him before the 1986 World Cup scoring the six goals he got and winning the award.

By the same token, it still seems crazy to be talking about an England player – even Harry – being in with a shout of being the top scorer at a tournament which will include both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi (below). But if Harry can get off to a good start and England can get off to a good start in the campaign, there is no reason at all why he cannot do what Lineker did.
