£1m is in pot, £4m left to go

- Richard Tanner

ENGLAND players will share a £1million bonus for reaching the last 16.

And if they go on and win, it is understood they will get £5m.

The £1m bonus works out at £43,478.26 per player. Winning would mean £217,391 each.

Both amounts are less than Belgium’s.

They are assured of £1.61m for reaching the last 16 and would share £9.2m if they won.

Gareth Southgate is going to make changes with England through.

Danny Rose is likely to start as left wingback in place of Ashley Young. But the big question is whether Golden Boot contender Harry Kane will start.

“It is impossible to make a decision that will please everybody,” said Southgate.

“I know as a player you would always feel more comfortable if you have had some match time as well, so that has to be part of our thinking.

“As a manager you have to think of the whole squad and then your second thought is for individuals and their own situations, and that is a really complex balance in any business where you are managing people.” IT IS interesting to see a lot of focus on England’s striker coach Allan Russell. To say he was a complete unknown until HARRY KANE is the captain, he’s there on the merit and he’s the best striker we have. At the World Cup, you have to play your best, and I think Gareth Southgate knows that.

So even though the England manager has said he will make changes with England guaranteed to qualify regardless of the result against Belgium tomorrow night, Kane is still the name that should be first on his list.

Jamie Vardy has not got any sort of case to expect a game ahead of him and England are suited to the way that Kane leads the line, how he moves, what he gives England. It is a job he does very well.

It happened in the Euros just two years ago with Roy Hodgson when he changed a lot of the players after the Wales game for the match against Slovakia, and that completely upsets rhythm.

I was at Partick Thistle for a brief time with Jimmy Bone as manager – 29 days at the end of the 2006-07 season – and it turns out that Allan played six games for us, five sat along from me on the bench.

But I was saying to my wife that I can’t remember him for the life of me. I know I’m getting old but I’ve
