Stars watch Lewis’ bid for F1 glory
IT WAS perhaps a prank The Young Ones would have performed in the 1980s TV comedy.
And Ade Edmondson rolled back the years yesterday as he photobombed his wife, Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders, and Spice Girl Geri Horner.
The 61-year-old pulled a funny face as Saunders, 60, and Horner, 45, posed for a picture at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
They were among a host of stars who watched Lewis Hamilton’s bid to become the first driver to win the British race six times.
But a crash in the opening moments left Hamilton, 33, facing an uphill struggle to claim the chequered flag. He went from pole position to last and then back up to second after a first-lap collision with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, 38.
The British driver apologised to fans for coming second. He said: “This is the greatest race of the year and this is the greatest crowd and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to bring it home for you today, but thank you for your support.
“It’s you guys that helped me get through today. We’ll take it on the chin and keep pushing hard, because believe me I will not give up. I will not give up.”
Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, 73, appeared relaxed in a white Hawaiistyle shirt and white shorts as he relaxed in the sun ahead of the race, won by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, 31.
Liverpool football legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, 67, and comedian John Bishop, 51, dropped in on the McLaren garage, watching on as mechanics worked on the car driven by Fernando Alonso, 36.
Sir Kenny, who won the European Cup three times, was knighted for services to football, charity, and the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
Meanwhile, This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, 56, posed with American-born singer Sinitta, 54.
