Hazard target

- TONY BANKS

REAL MADRID are set to hand new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri a double summer blow.

The Champions League winners not only want to sign Chelsea’s £200million Belgian World Cup superstar Eden Hazard – but have targeted Bayern Munich’s Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, who is also on the Blues’ radar this summer.

Real, who have seen Cristiano Ronaldo’s £92 million switch to Juventus this week, are desperate to bring in star names to replace him and Hazard, below, is top of their list. Chelsea are determined not to sell their prized asset but the player has yet to sign a new deal and has once again hinted that this could be the time to leave. Lewandowski, wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea, has said that he is likely to stay in Germany, but Real are expected to test that resolve with a massive bid. Matches 7, Mins 690, Goals against 6, Yellow 0 Gareth Southgate’s biggest selection gamble paid off as he kept his head with his distribution and made some excellent saves when called upon. Bright future.

Strong in his new position but the occasional mistake – normally an error of judgment – got in the way of this being a truly impressive World Cup.

5

Brought energy bombing forward but always seemed just a little bit off when it came to focus at the back. Needs to knuckle down and have a solid season.

6

Penalty shoot-out success perhaps gave him confidence and he did better against Belgium the second time. Lost battle with Henderson though.

7

An absolute colossus in the heart of the England defence right up until that fatal late mistake against Croatia. Needs to erase those to become truly world class.

8

That giant slab of a head was faultless at the back and even got a great goal. Erased doubts over his class at this level with some immaculate performances.

8

Provided the energy that made England fizz. Scored the team’s goal of the tournament and can only get better in that midfield position as he builds experience.

8. JORDAN HENDERSON

Matches 5, Mins 482, Goals 0, Assists 0, Yellow 1 The difference in the side was notable when he was absent. He has built himself an impressively enhanced reputation. England simply did not tick in the same way when he was not there. Matches 6, Mins 573, Goals 6, Assists 0, Yellow 0 By the end he was broken by the pressure of leading the team but before jumping on his back remember those six goals. His stats, if not his displays, are world class.

10. RAHEEM STERLING

Matches 6, Mins 454, Goals 0, Assists 1, Yellow 0 Passed the 1,000-day mark since his last England goal and panicked
