Tigers have to wait for Genge

-

ENGLAND and Leicester prop Ellis Genge is set to be sidelined until the new year as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Genge, 23, was hurt during England’s tour of South Africa last month and returned home early from that three-Test trip.

He underwent surgery, and Leicester head coach Matt O’Connor said: “We’re probably looking at him playing again in the new year at this stage.”

Genge, who has won five caps, suffered a shoulder injury last season that ended his Six Nations hopes. “Gengey has had the operation and everything went well from that point of view,” added O’Connor.

“He’s well into his rehab work now and then he will start fitness work and building up to play again. But he will miss the first phase of the season.”

The Tigers kick off their Gallagher Premiership season against Exeter on September 1. England face Tests against New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Japan in November.

TOULON president Mourad Boudjellal has been fined £66,500 and his club handed a suspended five-point deduction.

The punishments, announced by European Professional Club Rugby, follow a hearing into misconduct complaints against Boudjellal and Toulon that was held in London earlier this month.

EPCR said Boudjellal “made comments that allegedly condoned homophobic conduct, discriminated against various groups, and brought the game into disrepute by attacking, disparaging and criticising EPCR” following a Champions Cup game against Benetton last season.

Boudjellal must pay the fine immediately, with a further £22,000 suspended for three years for any similar offence. GENGE DOUBLE Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold has undergone successful surgery to treat a back problem.

Yarnold, the first Briton to defend a Winter Olympic title when she won skeleton gold in February, had an operation to fix some slipped discs on Monday. “Lizzy has been managing the pain for some time and we were all of the same opinion that an operation was in the best interests of her health and well-being,” said Andi Schmid, the British Skeleton performance director. 2.
