School was out and so was I...

JACK WILSHERE has revealed how his six-year-old son Archie helped him get over his World Cup heartache.

The midfielder, 26, is about to kick off a new career at West Ham after a decade at Arsenal.

His Gunners exit quickly followed his England omission, which had also disappointed his son.

Wilshere said: “I picked Archie up from school and he went out in front of everyone and was like ‘you are not going to the World Cup!’ I said ‘nope, no I’m not mate’. He was like ‘that is not fair!’ I said ‘well, I know’. He got it in the end.

“This was the first one where it would have been nice to be involved and him watching me. But it was nice to watch every game with him.”

Wilshere followed the side’s progress in Russia like every England supporter.

“It was a weird feeling,” he said. “The penalty shoot-out was awful. I now understand what fans go through.” ❑JACK WILSHERE was speaking at the launch of the Nerf Laser Ops Pro game. CRYSTAL PALACE are set to solve their striker crisis by tying up an £11milllion deal for Senegal forward Khouma Babacar. Manager Roy Hodgson has moved for Babacar, left, to beef up an attack that struggled for goals last season. The 25-year-old caught the eye in Serie A last season, scoring seven goals for Sassuolo. ●BOURNEMOUTH will listen to offers for Harry Arter after bidding £17million for Levante’s Colombian World Cup star Jefferson Lerma.
