Star Gere to become a father again at 69
AGE PROVES TO BE NO BARRIER FOR THESE CELEBRITY DADS
HOLLYWOOD superstar Richard Gere is to become a father again at the age of 69.
He is expecting his first child with Spanish wife Alejandra Silva, 35, who he married in April after four years of dating.
Respected Spanish daily newspaper ABC broke the news of the pregnancy but the couple are yet to officially comment on the reports.
Both already have children from previous relationships.
Gere has 18-year-old son Homer from his marriage to second wife Carey Lowell.
His wife has five-yearold son Alberto from her first marriage to Govind Friedland.
Gere, star of Pretty Woman and other Hollywood hits, celebrates his 69th birthday at the end of this month.
He was married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 until 1995 before tying the knot with Ms Lowell in 2002. However, they split up in September 2013.
He met his current wife, a publicist, at a luxury Italian hotel she had bought with her former spouse and which she was managing at the time.
Following their wedding in Spain in April, the couple had a blessing in the United States near Gere’s New York home.
He said afterwards: “I am the happiest man in the universe, how could I not be?” Alejandra said: “Richard has been my hero in real life.
“I was a little lost, without light, and meeting him gave sense to my life.
“I felt like someone was stretching out his hand and showing me the true path.” Two months ago Gere announced he is to return to the small screen for the first time in 30 years, in a BBC drama.
He will play a US media mogul in a new eight-part drama for BBC Two called MotherFatherSon.
